Also, the artwork was filled with a lot of great symbolism that would serve as excellent discussion points in a group. When I am reading a graphic novel, I need colors, and the republished, colored version had excellent ones. After reading the copy I had read, I discovered that the book was originally published in black and white, and I genuinely think that I would not have liked that version nearly as much. It was like a cross between “traditional” art and manga, but it was so well-drawn and the colors were so beautiful that it made my reading of it so much better. It had a different aesthetic than a lot of other graphic novels I’ve read. The first thing that really caught my interest in the actual book was the artwork. It was essentially a horror story in graphic novel format, which was an exciting find for me as most graphic novels tend to be realistic fiction or fantasy. However, this graphic novel was anything but that. Review: I tend to be very wary of graphic novels… They tend to be a bit too immature for my liking, and are not typically a material I would present to my middle schoolers. She catches a goblin, casts spells with unforeseen consequences, works with a Changeling to save a human baby, and fights her literal doppelganger for the rights to her life.
